FUNTASTIC 2008 RULES AND REGULATIONS NSA + HOUSE RULES
1. The winning team must ensure the umpire has signed the official score sheet & submit it to the approved scoreboard score keeper to ensure the win. Scoresheets MUST be returned to the scoreboard scorekeeper by the winning team within 45 minutes after the end of the game or the game will be deemed a 0-0 tie. If scoresheets are turned in without all the information clearly marked, it will be treated as spoiled and the game points will be assessed at “0-0” for that game.
2. A player must be minimum 16 years of age and may only participate with only ONE team.
3. Funtastic is a mixed 5/5 format. A team can play with 9 players, with the 10th batting position being an automatic out. If a team cannot field enough players by game time a default may occur and a 7-0 score will be awarded to the opposing complete team.
4. A team must have a minimum of 4 females and may proceed with extra females, however at no time may a team field more than 5 males. Any player may play any field position regardless of gender (i.e. female pitcher/ female catcher is okay).
5. Maximum 10 batters per inning. Maximum 12 batters in the batting lineup. The extra players must be an extra girl and an extra guy with unlimited variation of field positions allowed. Batting order will alternate male/female.
6. Free substitution is allowed. Re-entry is permitted to the original position in the batting order. Unlimited courtesy runners permitted, but must be female regardless of the gender of the original runner.
7. The 10th batter cannot be walked. If less than two out the ball may be thrown home in which case all play ceases and any runs scored prior to the ball being received at home plate shall score; alternatively, the 3rd out may be achieved in a normal manner. Base runners do not advance after every 4 called balls.
8. Home team shall be decided by an umpire’s coin toss prior to game. Games may start ahead of scheduled times if the field is available. A 12” optic yellow ball shall be used for all games (game balls provided to umpires by Funtastic).
9. Both teams should keep score, however the visiting team will hold the official score sheet. At the end of each game the umpire has to check to ensure the following are clearly marked: Game Score , Winning Team , The Field , The Time, Your Division
10. All games are 7 innings or 1 hour 15 minutes. No new inning shall start after 1 hour 5 minutes; except in the case of a tie during playoff games. Ties are permitted in round robin play.
11. Playoff games that are tied at the end of regulation time shall use the international tie-breaking rule to determine a winner. (Definition: starting at the beginning of the extra inning, the batting team starts with a base runner on second base, which is the player who was the third out in the previous inning.)
12. Strike mats must be used. If the pitch was legal and the ball makes contact with the mat a strike will be called. Funtastic follows the NSA rule for pitching arc (between 6 and 10 feet).
13. Foul ball on the 3rd strike constitutes an out.
14. No Bunting. No metal spikes. No base stealing. Runners may advance on a hit ball only. Tagging is permitted.
15. Base runners may leave their bag only after the ball has either been hit or has crossed home plate. To leave early is a leadoff and the base runner will be called out.
16. Runners may advance on a caught fly ball, fair or foul however they must tag up and are in jeopardy to be put out. Infield fly rule IS (or is not) in effect.
17. Home Run Rule: For all fenced diamonds. The first two home run hitters per team become the only batters who will be allowed to hit unlimited home runs per game. Any other over the fence home run hit balls will be charged as a strike. A player substitute put in for either of the two home run hitters becomes the home run hitter.
18. Home Plate Safe Line: A 6 foot line drawn perpendicular to the 3rd base foul line from the top left corner of home plate is established to prevent any contact at home plate. A player who touches home plate in any circumstance will be called out. An offensive player who runs into the defensive player at home while they are on home plate will be called out and ejected from the game. This safety rule will be strictly enforced.
19. Teams or fans consuming alcohol or prohibited drugs on ball-fields or sidelines will be subject to forfeiture of game. (COOLERS SUSPECTED CONTAINING ANY PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM THE PARK! STRICTLY ENFORCED)
20. IF A MALE BATTER IS WALKED, regardless of the count he will be awarded second base and the next batter, the female, HAS THE OPTION TO BAT.
21. MERCY RULE: After 5 innings if a team is leading by 11 or more runs the game is declared over. The score at that time is the official score. Home team shall not bat if leading in the last inning (round robin and playoff).
22. Due to the game-time allotted there is to be no infield or outfield warm up balls taken on the field. The pitcher will receive 3 warm up pitches at the start of the game and none during the remainder of the game. A new pitcher if they have not pitched in that game will get 3 pitches to warm up. To toss the game ball around the bases is permitted once per inning per team.
23. REGARDLESS OF STARTING TIME OF GAME THE GAME MUST END AT POSTED TIME DUE TO THE NEXT GAMES MAINTAINING THE SCHEDULE. If a game is called for time or rain the official score shall be the score at the end of the last full inning! NO WARNING IS NEEDED
Tie Break Rule for Round Robin
If two or more teams are tied after the round robin games, the tie will be settled by looking at the head to head record, if there is still a tie the teams +/- will decide the placement, if still tied runs for will decide the teams position and finally if still tied a coin will be flipped to decide the placement of the teams for the playoff round.
Rain Policy
1. If game is called by umpire on account of inclement weather after the game has started and the game is to not be finished then the final score will be the score at the last fully completed inning.
2. In case of inclement weather both teams must show up to the fields planning to play (unless games have been called by the umpire in Chief see#3). If one team does not show up with enough players, that team will forfeit. If raining and both teams, and the scheduled umpire agree that it is safe, and all are willing to play then the game may begin. (Umpire has right to call game if conditions become unsafe ie. lightning)
3. In case of major storm with no let up in sight, the Umpire in Chief in consultation with Funtastic Committee, may call off entire games. All games called prior to start will be assigned a 7-7 tie. There will be no rescheduling of called off games.
